If you’re a pinterest fan, you know that it can be a dangerous internet black hole of time, sucking away endless hours browsing through incredible moments and ideas. (If you haven’t browsed pinterest yet, beware of it’s time stealing qualities!)

In all seriousness though, pinterest can be a fantastic tool to communicate vision and style. With weddings, it’s no different. There are thousands of beautiful poses, settings, and moments of emotion that show the best of wedding photography out there. As a photographer, I appreciate great work and think pinterest can be very helpful, when used properly, to help capture wedding pictures that you’ll love.

My first warning to brides is that we’ll never be able to recreate other people’s pictures, nor should we want to. This is your day and these are your moments. Let’s capture them with your personalities. There are hundreds of photography styles out there. Hopefully you’ve picked me as your photographer because you love my style of crisp and colorful images. Those are the kinds of images I’m best at and that’s the style I will most likely deliver.

That said, there are a few great ways to use pinterest. Mainly, it can help us plan out your wedding day to maximize the kinds of moments and pictures you love. It can help us plan for lighting, setting, or to communicate poses that you want to try.

Here is my recommendation for starting a pinterest board for your wedding photography:

1. If you dont already have one, sign up for a pinterest account.  http://www.pinterest.com/  It will take an email address and a few minutes.

2. You’re ready to start pinning! The best place to start is through the David Strauss Photography website. Since you’ve hired me for my work and style, it’s much easier to recreate lighting setups and poses if I know exactly how it was done. Go ahead and browse through different wedding and engagement galleries or blog posts to find your favorite images. Pin the ones that catch your eye!

For Galleries: Scroll over a picture and select it to enlarge it. Select the pinterest link at the bottom right to be taken to a pinning page. Pin any pictures you like.

3. For every picture you pin, write one or two sentences about why you like it. For instance with the following picture you might write examples similar to this:

Folly Beach Wedding Photography Charleston Photographer-978

– I love the setting

-I like the lighting and color

-Their pose is sweet

-I love the reflection in the water

-etc…

Be specific and concise in what attracts you most about the picture.

4. After you’ve browsed through David Strauss Photography, feel free to add on to your wedding photography board with other pictures from the pinterest website. Make sure to keep your descriptions to one or two sentences.

5. When you’re satisfied with all you’ve pinned, send me a link to your board! We can chat through your wedding day and when we’ll be able to incorporate different ideas!

Have fun and dont use up too much time! =)
